Apparently it takes more than 24 hours to recover from a 13 mile hike... at least it does for me. I am incredibly exhausted still. I was walking funny around campus all day because my legs can barely function correctly. Maybe I need to go on MORE 13 mile hikes so my body doesn't feel so out of shape after every time.
It's snowing... again. The forecast said no snow until tomorrow, but apparently it lied. I'm so tired of this kind of weather I could scream, but at least Saturday was nice, right? Now let's just pray for even nicer weather sooner. It is spring after all. I don't feel as though I should be running my heat in spring. Any arguments?
Today Clark and I got in a bit of a heated discussion. With him not going to MOS and no one from his unit returning his calls, the stress level is high. We are just trying to make it through this next month or so. He has a job lined up for May 1st... but Sugar Mountain closes April 1st. Do you see the problem? We may just end up having to file for unemployment (way too much information, I know). I'm just sharing all this to remind everyone that we desperately need prayer!
Change of subject...
Today in African American Lit, the book The Color Purple sparked a religious conversation that I did not agree with. It took every fiber of me not to open my big fat mouth and get in to an argument with my professor. She and I already do not see eye to eye, and I didn't need to make that rift between us even larger. It's funny, because at the beginning of class these other two girls and I were talking and this one was talking about how this same professor was not letting her write a response because it was against this said professor's beliefs. Apparently, the girl was not happy. She said the professor had no right to force her opinion on her in a public school setting. I kind of looked at her funnily. I didn't agree with that. Unfortunately, professors with tenure can do whatever they want to do- and that includes trying to make you have their point of view on everything; "trying" is the key word, because no one can MAKE you believe what they believe, but they can try. The classroom, for a professor, is his or her environment to attempt to make a difference. Just like, in Adolescent Lit the other day we started talking about abortions and our professor proclaimed he wished there was no such thing, and in my Bio class the other day our professor threw monkey-experiments in our face and told us we could prevent it whenever we vote and we should be up for stem cell research to prevent it. The classroom is that professor's arena to express his or her beliefs, even if the students don't agree, most professors feel as though they have to attemp to make a difference in their own way. I mean, they are shaping the minds of tomorrow, so they might as well try and shape them the way they want them.
Anyway, back to this religious conversation. This kid in my class goes, "Yea, like church is just a place you dress up to go to and try not to fall asleep. There's no point to it. You shouldn't have to go to a specific place to listen to someone tell you about a book that takes place thousands of years ago. Why do you need to do?"
I envisioned myself smacking him across the face. If you're going to open your mouth about organized religion, you should at least know what you're talking about to make a point. You should have at least SOME knowledge of what you're talking about before you open your mouth.
Another boy in class responded, "To an extent. I think God is who you want "him" or "it" to be. God is everything and everywhere and different to every is person. A person should be able to worship how he sees fit, and the supreme "It" can worry about this and that later."
OK, calling God "it" is NOT correct. Even in other religions God is definitely male. Granted, I'm sure you have other "gods" who are female, but prodominently the figure tends to be male. That is, if we're talking about religions like Muslim, Christian, Budhist, etc. UGH.
Then our teacher is all excited because she clearly does not want anyone to have a pro-God view on any of this, or, at least, a pro-organized religion outlook. She wants all of us to doubt true Christians and wants all of us to be "over zealous" and viewed as "Bible thumpers." She even SAID that missionaries are all Bible thumpin' fools and that no one should try and FORCE a religion on another culture. Now, I know that back in the day missionaries were pretty over the top, but now? SERIOUSLY?!
I guess that's what everyone gets when they don't go to a Christian school... maybe.
Sorry if I offended anyone.
I'll return to my homework and cooking Chicken Parmesan now...
Until next time.
We've all got our junk, and my junk is you!
